Urban District Council meeting - proposal by Mr Farnham

The monthly meeting of this Council was held at the Village Hall on Tuesday evening, when there were present: Mr J D Cradock (chairman), Messrs T Chapman, D S Hack, T North, T Payne, T Pepper, J R Robinson, R Thompson and E H Warner.
Mr W H Simpson, C E of Leicester, attended the meeting, by appointment, with reference to proposed sewerage scheme, and fully explained the plan and proposed treatment of the sewerage. Considerable discussion followed, and it was resolved that the Council meet Mr Simpson at Syston on Monday next, at 11 o'clock, to inspect the new sewerage works there.
A letter was read from Messrs Tait and Herbert, asking 3s per square yard for the additional quantity of land required by this Council towards widening and improving the road at the corner of Woodhouse Lane, the area of same being 110 square yards. It was resolved that the clerk inform Messrs Tait and Herbert that the Council were not prepared to purchase any land to effect this improvement.
In reply to the Chairman, the Surveyor said that Messrs Glover and Co, the contractors, had written expressing their regret at the delay in sending the water cart, but hoped it would be sent off in a few days.
Mr Cradock at this point was obliged to leave the meeting, and the chair was taken by Mr Thompson.
Upon the application of the bandmaster of the Loughborough Borough Prize Band, permission was given for an open-air concert in Quorn some Sunday during the present summer.
A letter was read from the Medical Officer of Health calling attention to the bad condition of premises in Barrow Street, Quorn, belonging to Mrs Wm Cannon, and the Inspector of Nuisances was ordered to serve the necessary notices at once, and see that the matter was promptly attended to, as attention had been called to this property on several previous occasions.
In answer to a circular letter issued by the clerk to the Leicestershire County Council, the Medical Officer said that Quorn ought to join one or more of the larger districts, and would probably have to provide two beds, according to the scheme of the county medical officer of health.
A plan of a proposed alteration to building line in Meeting Street, by Mr G F Farnham was submitted by the surveyor, showing the taking in of part of the bank opposite the Primitive Methodist Chapel and the pulling down of three old cottages forming part of Mee's Yard. The proposed alteration had been viewed by the Highway Committee, who suggested that if these alterations were carried out Mr Farnham should be asked to give an equivalent in land near the Mill gate on the Woodhouse Road, in order to widen the narrow piece of road there, but as they considered the matter an important one, they preferred that the whole of the Council should visit both places, and it was resolved to do so on Monday next, before writing to Mr Farnham.
Mr Hack's notice of motion with regard to standing orders was adjourned to the next meeting.
