A sacrilegious act

Agnes Thompson (13), factory hand, Quorn, was summoned for stealing violets, value 4d, the property of Elizabeth Sanders, widow, of Quorn, on March 21. Mr T J Webb, who appeared to prosecute, said the flowers were abstracted from a wreath deposited on the grave of the late Mr Sanders. It was not a case in which the prosecution felt the slightest vindictiveness, but this practice of damaging wreaths should be stopped.
If the girl admitted the offence, and expressed regret, the prosecution would ask leave to withdraw. Defendant pleaded guilty, and promised not to repeat the offence. An admonition was administered by the Chairman, and the girl was warned as to the result of a repetition of the sacrilegious act. She was advised to convey the warning to her young friends, and the case was then dismissed on defendant paying costs.
