Postcard of The Cross, Quorn

This photograph is taken from the Cross looking towards the Memorial Gardens (then known as the Little Green). It shows the temporary war memorial with the permanent memorial being constructed behind it.

It is a printed card and part of the Vulcan Series. On the reverse it says 'Published by Chas Gamble, Station Road, Quorn'. This was a Quorn newsagents shop.

The card is unused, but the original photograph must have been taken about 1920. The permanent war memorial was unveiled in 1921.

The large building in the background is Brook House, formerly the home of the Parnham family. During the twentieth century the fortunes of this grand house waned. It was used to house refugees and evacuees during the wars and was finally demolished in 1963.
