Re-possession of a Quorn house

When asked by Judge Galbraith at the Loughborough County Court on Tuesday how he proposed to pay 27s arrears for three weeks rent, Cyril Adcock, of 5 Sarson Street, Quorn , replied, "I don't know. The wife is the Chancellor of the Exchequer".
He was allowed to consult his wife, who was in court.
The case was one in which Mrs Emma Sewell, of Quorn, applied for possession of the house occupied by Adcock. Notice to quit had been served, but Adcock was still there. The rent had not been collected since the notice was served.
Adcock told the judge that although he had tried to find another place in Quorn he had been unsuccessful. There had been a rumour going about that he owed rent and that was suggested as the reason he had got to leave, He strenuously denied the rumour.
The Judge rebuked him and said there had been no suggestion to that effect in the Court and Adcock should not have brought the matter up.
He was allowed until the end of September to find another house, and he was ordered to pay 10s a week rent, 1s of that amount off the three week's arrears.
