The Quorn Music Hall Society

In 1972, it was suggested to the Swimming Pool Committee, which had been formed to establish a village and school swimming pool in the grounds of Rawlins School, by Betty Lord, that there was enough talent in the village of Quorn to put on a show. The result of this was that Betty and Eric Halford organised the first of the many shows that were to follow. The first show was apparently, a hotchpotch of several local people joining together to entertain and raise money for the Swimming Pool Fund.

In 1973, Christine Dunbar took on the job of organising this wealth of talent, and so began a tradition of entertainment by the members of the Quorn Music Hall Society. Up to 1989 the money raised by the annual show went towards the building and upkeep of the swimming pool. In later years, the profits were donated towards the purchase of various items needed by the school.

New members were always welcome to join the happy band of singers, dancers, actors and backstage. The final annual show of the QMHS was held in October 1997.

The cast members varied but core members were:
Kevin Biddlecom, Carolyn Biddlecom, Ann Billyard, Irene Bishop, Peter Brown, Stuart Brown, Louise Brown, John Canning, Catherine Canning, Pauline Coulton, Eric Halford, Julian Holding, Emma Heighton, Lesley Heighton, Betty Howlett Ted Orton, Richard Rock, Natalie Thompson, Phil Tooley, Noel Tyler, Tim Tyler, Sandra Worcester.
Piano: Dorothy Colley.
