Then and Now – Floods in Quorn
The first photograph was taken in the early 1980s and shows Ruth Iley from Farnham Street (in her twenties), standing outside the Memorial Gardens on Quorn Cross, during floods. Since then there have been extensive flood prevention measures and everyone thought severe flooding in Quorn was a thing of the past. Sadly this was not the case when in January 2024 the village had the worst floods that anyone could remember.
Many houses on Meeting Street were flooded as were businesses such as The Royal Oak, The White Horse and The Monk.
The second picture was taken on 3rd January 2024 and shows Ruth standing on Quorn Cross with the Memorial Gardens in the background. She couldn’t stand in the same position as previously as the water was just too deep.
