22 High Street, Quorn - discovery behind a wall!

In September 2021, local optometrist Mohammed Bhojani was having some alterations carried out at his Quorn practice, when the builders discovered this old range behind a plasterboard wall! It is almost certainly over a hundred years old. Unfortunately no maker’s mark is discernible.

The building, which is now 22 High Street (Visual Answers), was once part of outbuildings belonging to Quorn Court, which at the time the earlier street scene below was photographed (about 1905), was occupied by John Davys Cradock. It can be seen that the property was side-on to High Street and had no ground floor windows that you can see. Next door (on the left, now no 20) was Shuttlewoods, the chemist’s shop and today (2021) is James Alvey Hairdressing.
