Quorn Guides in the Canadian press! 2011
The museum team do not usually include items this recent, but this one was too good not to!
The wedding of Prince William and Katherine Middleton on 29th April 2011 was reported all over the world and this picture appeared in the Edmonton Journal from Alberta in Canada. The picture below was the largest in the middle of a four page spread and centre stage is a banner from Quorn Guides! The picture is captioned:
“Thousands of well-wishers surge along the Mall behind the Police towards Buckingham Palace to celebrate the royal wedding.”
Mary Totman nee Webster was born and brought up in Quorn, leaving in the early fifties. Her father was William Webster, a plumber on Loughborough Road. She has lived in Alberta, Canada since 1970, but has never forgotten Quorn and was very surprised to see the banner in this photograph in her local paper in 2011.
The banner was made by Tessa Boyd who appears in the photograph holding the left hand side of the banner, ie next to the St George flag, with long dark hair and red crosses on her cheeks.
