Three Quorn businessmen

These three Quorn men are (left to right) Stan Orton, Tommy Howlett and Frank Hudson. They all lived either on or near Barrow Road. The photograph looks as if it was taken in the late 1940s or early 1950s. The location is unknown, but is not Quorn.

Stan (William Stanley) Orton was born in 1912 and in 1939 was living with his parents at 74 Barrow Road, employed as a bus driver by Howletts bus company just up the road.

Tommy (Thomas) Howlett (born 1901) lived at 29 Castledine Street and was part of Howletts bus company on Barrow Road, that had been started by his father George.

Frank Hudson was born on 5th February 1911 and in 1939, when he was 28 years old and working at Quorn Laundry as a mechanic, he was living at Meadow View, 83 Barrow Road. Also living there was Frank’s grandfather Samuel Hudson, his mother Lilian Hudson, his aunt Edith Hudson, his wife Lily and their daughter Pauline. It must have been quite crowded! His granddaughter still lives on Barrow Road today (2021).
