Dedication of Lime Trees, Quorn, May 1952
In May 1952 Quorn dedicated an avenue of lime trees in Stafford Orchard, planted in memory of the US 82nd Airborne Division, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment who were based in the village in 1944, many of whom lost their lives.
The photograph shows Major Norman E Pehrson, Army Attache at the United States Embassy in London, inspecting veterans from both world wars in the park, who took part in the parade prior to the dedication ceremony. The gentleman to his left is Quorn British Legion member and former Quorn Police Constable Billy (William) Norman.
See also Artefact 474 and Artefact 884 for photographs taken at the same event.
