Estate of Revd John Prior of Quorn, 1831
This plan was drawn up in 1831 to record the landholdings of the Revd John Prior from Quorn. He died shortly afterwards in 1833 and is buried in Quorn Churchyard. John Prior’s father, who was also called John Prior, was a well-known Leicestershire cartographer and became famous for his 1777 map of Leicestershire.
This plan was drawn up by Joseph Camm, another local Quorn gentleman who held many positions in the village including that of schoolmaster, land surveyor, registrar of births, marriages and deaths, manager of Quorn Gas Company, secretary to the Quorn Local Board and many other posts over the course of his long life.
The image of the plan was taken from a photocopy held in the Local Studies Section of Loughborough Library. Ascertaining the exact locations of the plots of land was a challenge, but they can be seen marked in red on the map below the plan. Note that a later map has been used and features such as the railway would not have existed when John Prior was alive.
