Joe Burton enjoys a pint!
Joe Burton was a well-known Quorn character, having fought in the Zulu War, the Boer War, and he even served in the Royal Defence Corps in 1914. For many years he lived with his wife Sarah on Farnham Street, before they moved to High Street in the 1930s.
During the 1930s and 1940s many pubs were still brewing their own beer, and Joe liked his pint from Mr North, the landlord of the Britannia Inn on Pinfold Gate in Loughborough. Dennis Powdrill from Loughborough, remembers his mum talking about Joe Burton having his beer delivered, and that he was their oldest customer.
The photograph shows Joe enjoying his beer with his wife Sarah looking on. Sarah died in 1941 aged 74 and Joe died in 1953 aged 90.
