Loughborough Monitor - 7th June 1963

Garden party raises 94

Quorn Church Rooms Committee's garden party on Whit Saturday raised 94 to augment their extension fund.

The event, held on the Vicarage lawn, was officially opened by the Rev. Stephen Rumsey, vicar of Whetstone, and the son of a former vicar of Quorn. A bouquet was presented to him for his wife, who was unable to be present, by Charlotte Jackson.

Stalls were organised and manned by the various sections of the church, including the Men's Society, Y.P.F., Mothers' Union, choir and bellringers, Church Council and the Church Rooms Committee.

Many young children entered the fancy dress parade, judged by Mrs Marshall, Miss L. Facer, and Mr John Beardsley, the winners being Paul Camp, Rebecca and Bromwin Jackson. A team of Y.P.F members gave a square dance demonstration and a miniature beetle drive was held, the winners being Alice Freshwater, Bromwin Jackson, Richard Tebbutt and Roger Speed.

Special competitions organised during the afternoon were won by Mrs Adkins (chicken supper), Tony Scott (cake) and Miss Starling (necklace)
