William Edward John Basil (Willie) Farnham, 1887
This very rare photograph of William Farnham was taken in 1887 and was part of a group photograph of Leicestershire Yeomanry officers, when William was a 32 year old Captain.
William was the eldest son of the much respected Edward Basil Farnham, and inherited his father’s position as squire in Quorn when Edward died in May 1879. In 1882 he married Catherine Matilda Anne Georgina Scott (known as Pussy), and the couple enjoyed an extravagant lifestyle. Their main home was at Quorn House, but much time was spent in London and travelling. William was a great benefactor in the village, but he did not have his father’s business sense and he went bankrupt in the early 1890s. He was later committed to an asylum. William died in June 1910 aged only 54.
