Quorn Hunt on the Little Green

The photograph for this postcard was taken between 1909 and 1913. The location is what is now called the Memorial Gardens on Quorn Cross, but was then called the ‘Little Green’.

All of the Wright’s Mill buildings fronting Leicester Road have now gone, but the row of shops and cottages (Stanley Cottages), still remain.

The picture reveals that the shop next to the mill is run by F Albarn. Frederick and Elizabeth Albarn moved to Quorn to run their business in about 1909, they carried on until shortly after WW1, when they retired to Farnham Street. It is very likely that the lady looking out of the upstairs window is Elizabeth Albarn.
