Ex-detective superintendent saves life of Quorn man - 1958

Prompt action by ex-Det. Supt. W. G. Bunker, of Leicester Road, Quorn, saved the life of a 23 years old man who was overcome by fumes it is believed, while taking a bath on Saturday.
Mr Bunker was in his grocery shop, when Mrs Smith, of Brook House, ran in to say her husband, Mr Thomas Smith, had collapsed. Going to the house, Mr Bunker found him lying wet and unconscious at the top of the stairs. With great difficulty he got Mr Smith downstairs and started artificial respiration while Mrs Smith went for a doctor. It was five minutes before Mr Smith began to show signs of life.
Mr Smith, who was still recovering from the effects of the mishap on Sunday, said there was a gas geyser in the bathroom which he had used for a year without trouble. He remembered that he began to feel weak in the bath, got out and tried to get downstairs. Next thing he knew was "coming to".
"Mr Bunker saved my life and I am grateful", he said.
