Quorn Jubilee celebrations - 1935
Loughborough Echo - 26th April 1935
As the result of a public meeting a large and representative committee with representatives from every public body in the village was elected to make arrangements for the Jubilee. The following is the programme for May 6th.
At 10am presentation of souvenirs to children resident in the parish and in attendance at the various schools.
1-30, fancy dress parade, to start from Station-road entrance to Stafford Orchard, headed by Mountsorrel Town Band and the committee. Prizes will be given to girls, boys, adults and tableaux.
2-45, the procession will assemble on Stafford Orchard for Thanksgiving Service.
3 to 4-15, sports for children; 3-30 to 4-30, tea for aged residents of 65 years and upwards; 4-15 to - 5-30, children's tea and adult sports; 5-30 to 6-30, children's sports continued; 8-30 to 10-30 dancing and fireworks in Stafford Orchard.
All residents have been asked to decorate their houses, and arrangements made for teas, etc. to be held under cover if wet.
It is hoped that some permanent memorial may be set up in the village, and suggestions have been made to erect roadside seats in different parts of the village.
The following Jubilee arrangements are in addition to those published on another page: There will be a tea for residents of 65 years and upwards on Monday at 3-30 in a marquee on the Stafford Orchard. All residents eligible are asked to apply for tickets to Mr R D Otter, Post Office, Quorn. The committee have decided to present souvenirs to children under school age, and parents are requested to present their children at the Village Hall for presentation of this souvenir at 10am.
