The Hurst, Loughborough Road

For the first part of the last century The Hurst (23 Loughborough Road), was home to the Wright family, who started their elastic webbing factory in the village in 1860.

At the time this photograph was taken (1965), the property was a hotel and restaurant and many villagers remember the fun they had there! It later went on to be the Royal Chequers Chinese restaurant, but despite great protests, the building was demolished in 2014. Today (2016) a Co-op supermarket stands on the site.

To the right of the picture is The Hurst garage. Note the Victorian coach standing on the forecourt.
