£130 takings at Quorn Legion Fete - 1963

Loughborough Monitor - 28th June 1963

There was an excellent response to Quorn's annual British Legion gala on the Stafford Orchard on Saturday. To date receipts have exceeded £130. The afternoon opened with a parade through the village of the Legion Standards followed by the Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry Band, who also played selections during the afternoon, and the event was officially opened by Colonel Guy German.

Chairman of the Men's Branch, Mr J B Beardsley, proposed a vote of thanks to Mr German which the president of the women's section, Miss L Facer, seconded.

A delightful little diversion took place during the afternoon when a parade was organised to select a Legion Queen. The successful contestant was Miss Ann Shuttlewood who went forward in the area finals at the De Montfort Hall; while other prize winners were Miss Clare Devereux and Miss Christine Orton. Also providing a considerable amount of interest were members of the Leicester Alsation Club.

First left is Kathleen Lidierth and third from the left at the back (next to the small girl with her arms folded), is thought to be Ann Bunker. (Information from John Rudkin).
