Quorn, Mountsorrel and Barrow on Soar Young Conservatives’ Garden Party, June 7th 1952

The Loughborough Monitor – June 14th 1952

Square dancing demonstrations and a baby show were among the attractions at a garden fete organised by Quorn, Mountsorrel and Barrow on Soar Young Conservative Association held at Quorn Court on Saturday.
The garden party was opened by Mrs C H Martin of Mountsorrel, who was introduced by Mr E G H Farnham.
A telegram was read from Mr Anthony Nutting M P for the Melton Division and Foreign Under Secretary, regretting his absence due to Government duties.
Mr John Jennings, prospective Conservative candidate for South-east Derbyshire, said the conservative Party was at present unpopular because of the grave economic difficulties which the Government was facing realistically and courageously.
‘In three years’, he said, the difficulties would be overcome and the party’s unpopularity disappear.
Stalls at the garden party included cakes, bring-and buy, garden produce, hoop-la, and carts.
Judges of the baby show were Nurse Robertson Ritchie and Mrs Antrim. Winners were: six months old, John Kevin Newbury and John Kirton Burger: six to 12 months, L Calderwood: 12 months and over, David Holders and Adrian Boon.
