Quorn Hall - Sale of Earl of Stamford's Hunting Stud, 1863
This engraving appeared in the London Illustrated News in May 1863.
It shows what was thought to be the biggest ever horse sale in the country. The Earl of Stamford had been living at Bradgate Park, but was Master of the Quorn Hunt and rented the stables and kennels from the Warners who were living Quorn Hall. When the Earl retired from the hunt, he sold the horses, dogs and associated saddlery, clothing etc.
It was planned that the sale would be held in the yard, however 6,000 to 7,000 people turned up so the sale had to be moved to a field. More details about the sale can be found in Artefact 1133.
