Leicester Road, Wakerley Court and The Mills area - then and now

This part of Quorn has changed out of all recognition since the 1960s.

The older photograph shows (on the far right), shows Wakerley's bakery and shop which was demolished and replaced by Wakerley Court houses and flats in about 2008.

The cottages and houses beyond Wakerley's are in the process of being demolished. At this stage the roofs have been removed.

On the far left, these shops were demolished shortly after this photograph was taken - but the Mill House pub had already gone and the outline can be see on the end of the Wright's office buildings.

Richard Thompson was a teenager at this time and lived in Quorn Terrace on Leicester Road, (opposite where The Mills flats are now). He was a keen photographer and has captured many valuable images that now appear on the museum site.
