Advertising Watch Key -Thomas Lucas, Watchmaker and Jeweller, Quorn

This beautifully made little watch key is just 4cm (1.5 inches) long and turns smoothly from the top ring. Watch keys were used by jewellers as advertising materials, as some firms may use pens and mugs etc today. This one is marked with “T. Lucas, Quorndon”.

Thomas Lucas ran a jewellers and watchmakers business in the village for many years and was a well known Quorn figure. He was the eldest son of Thomas and Fanny Lucas (nee Rennocks). He took over the business near Quorn Cross on High Street from his father.

Thomas married Sarah Jane Jesson from Quorn in 1885. They had six children - their eldest son, John Jesson Lucas died in WW1 aged just 19. His name is on the Quorn war memorial. Thomas Lucas died in 1929.
