Petty Sessions. Quorn man steals - 1918

Walter Worker, farm labourer, Quorn, was summoned for stealing eggs and milk to the value of 3s 4d, the property of John Moss, Quorn Fields, on February 23rd. Prosecutor said he had reason to believe defendant was dishonest, and so kept a watch. On Friday he knew defendant took away eggs and milk, but allowed him to go without saying anything. The next night witness looked in the man's pocket and saw four eggs, and when defendant was about to leave the farm, prosecutor asked him to give up these eggs and hand over the can of milk he had taken without permission.
PC Thornton said he stopped defendant on the 23rd and found in his possession four hen eggs and one duck egg in addition to those Mr Moss had taken away. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 40s or 21 days, in default. Mr Moss said he would give the man another chance and continue the employment. Defendant given a month in which to pay the fine.
