Tankard for Quorn Founder

Octogenarian and founder member of Quorn Conservative Club, Mr Jack Payne was presented with an inscribed tankard, a pipe, pouch and tobacco at the club's golden anniversary celebrations on Wednesday.

At the meat and salad supper for 46 members, Mr Payne, the village cobbler for 69 years, recalled the history of the club over the past half-century. Mr and Mrs Maurice Lister, steward and stewardess for the last six and a half years, who are leaving the club, were presented with a gift of £10.

The presentation to Mr Payne was made by the president of the club, Mr Ronald Gamble, and the presentation to the steward and stewardess was made by Mr E. C. Russ, chairman.

Mr and Mrs Lister are leaving the village to live in nearby Barrow-on-Soar..
