Jack Payne

Jack (John William) Payne was born in Quorn in 1880, the son of Isaac and Ann Payne and one of 10 children/step-children.

He began working with shoes at the age of 14 with his half-brother, Terry Carr, and set up his own business after the first world war. His original workshop was a shed in Nursery Lane, but he later moved to premises in Station Road where he carried on working until just before he died in 1969, aged 88.
If you enter ‘Jack Payne’ into the search box on the museum website, you will find at least four other artefacts, including a photograph of his premises and his obituary which appeared in the Loughborough Echo.
