Interior of Quorn St Bartholomew’s Parish Church – 1905 and 2011
Our forebears from 100 hundred years ago would certainly still recognise the inside of Quorn Church, but even so, these two pictures show many changes - some significant and some less so.
• Above the chancel arch it says 'GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST. ON EARTH PEACE GOODWILL TOWARD MEN. This was painted over a long time ago.
• The rood screen was installed in 1913.
• The gas lamps were replaced when electricity was installed.
• The pulpit has the same stone base, but the wooden part was replaced in 1959.
• If you look carefully behind the pulpit, there are two memorial plaques in 1905 and three in 2011. They refer to the Cradock family who lived a Quorn Court and the final plaque is in memory of John Davys Cradock who died without issue in 1921.
• On the right of the 1905 photograph, you can just see the edge of a heavy curtain which covered the main door.
