Station Road and the White Horse – then and now
The older photograph was taken in the 1950s and many villagers still remember Dockray’s fish and chip shop which was next to the White Horse. The smaller shops have since been demolished and this area is now the pub garden/yard. The pub has also extended into the taller surviving building.
On the centre-left of both photographs (in the background), can be seen the three cupolas (chimney like structures) on the roof of the old Wright’s mill building. When you look at the relative height with the surrounding buildings, you are reminded that one storey was removed from this building when it was converted to apartments.
