British Legion presentation to Arthur Staines - 1976

Loughborough Monitor - 8th October 1976

There was a representative gathering at the Bull's Head, Quorn, on Friday last, for the gold badge presentation to Mr Staines. The county president, Maj.Gen. E R Coaker, made the presentation, and he was delighted that he and Mr Staines had served in the same campaigns and must at times have been in close contact.

Mr W J B Beardsley, branch chairman, in asking the General to make the presentation, gave a resume of Mr Staines' service to the country and the Legion. He had served the branch in all positions, including at times dual roles, from the committee to the highest office of president. The presentation was preceded by a buffet supper, after which Mr Snow, a member of the Magic Circle, gave a mystifying display of his prowess.

The duties of MC were carried out by Mr A S Wheldon, the branch secretary.

The photograph shows Mr Arthur Staines receiving the congratulations of Major-General R E Coaker on his Royal British Legion Gold Badge award. Left to right: Mr A S Wheldon, Mrs Staines, Mr Staines, Mr W J B Beardsley, Dr H Wykes, Mr R C B Beardsley
