Collecting leaves on High Street, Quorn, October 1952
This great picture appeared in the Loughborough Monitor on Friday 17th October 1952, when the weather was unseasonably warm. Chris Sharp (on the left) and his pal Trevor Jones from Warwick Avenue, were collecting leaves outside Rawlins School on High Street. They started on Stafford Orchard and finished on Caves Field, before taking their sacks of leaves home for their dads to use in the garden.
The full item as it appeared in the newspaper:
Shades of Autumn
Sunshine bursts through the trees in a golden glow, mottling the leaf-strewn walk and stealing all coldness from the October air. The schoolboys warmly clad, but making some concession to the summary mildness find pleasure I scraping together the crisp, coppery leaves in rustling armsful and thrusting them into sacks. Before long they will find their way to the kitchen garden to be dug in by grateful parents.
Boys in the picture, taken by our photographer at Quorn on Saturday, are Christopher Sharp (8), 17 Warwick Avenue, Quorn (left), and Trevor Jones (7) of 5 Warwick Avenue.
