Raising funds for proposed church rooms - 1910

Loughborough Monitor and News - 30th June 1910

A summer fete and sale of work was opened in the Village Hall and adjacent grounds yesterday (Wednesday), and is being continued today. Land has been acquired for the extension of the churchyard and a site for the proposed church-room, and in connection with this fund there is a debt of £135.

It is hoped this sum will be forthcoming as the result of the fete. There was an opening ceremony on Wednesday – The Vicar (the Rev H H Rumsey) presided, and was supported by the Countess of Shannon, Mr E H Warner, Mr G Farnham, Mr J A Le M Hayward, Mr W Thornton and Mr C Adams. The Vicar introduced the Countess and explained the objects of the fete. The Countess of Shannon, in a few suitable words declared the sale open, and was heartily thanked on the initiation of Mr Warner, seconded by Mr J A Le M Hayward. The arrangements were excellent, and were carried out by an Executive Committee comprising the Vicar, Mr J A Le M Hayward, and Mr C Adams.

In the afternoon a tennis tournament was played, and in the evening scenes from the “Merry Wives of Windsor” were played. Half-hour concerts were also provided, and other attractions included putting competitions, café chantant, shooting gallery and competitions, boating, and a gymnkhana and hidden treasure competition.
