Recreation Ground for Quorn, April 1914

Melton Mowbray Mercury and Oakham and Uppingham News - Thursday 2nd April 1914

RECREATION GROUND FOR QUORN
HANDSOME "LEAD" TO THE URBAN DISTRICT
The negotiation. for a lease of the Stafford Orchard by the Quorn Urban Council having fallen through, we are a position to state that this valuable piece of land has been secured for the ratepayers, through the instrumentality of Messrs Warner, Cradock, Parker and Wright, who have contributed, as a gift 300 towards the purchase money, on the understanding that the Urban District Council can take over the Land within a reasonable time.

In the meantime it is hoped that other parishioners will not only approve of their action in securing for the inhabitants such a valuable open space in the centre of the village, but also emulate their example by contributing their quota towards the remainder of the purchase money. It is within the bounds of possibility to do this if a few energetic ratepayers take the matter in hand.

Note that Edward Warner, John Davys Cradock, Christopher Parker and Sydney Wright bought Stafford Orchard from John Adrian Farnham.
