St Bartholomew's Church Clock - the day the clock face slipped

This photograph was taken on Monday 23rd November 1964, when a firm from Derby were removing the old slate clock face on St Bartholomew’s Church. It had ‘slipped’ by three inches and was found to be extremely unsafe. The two-inch thick slab of slate, which is four and a half feet in diameter and weighs over four hundred weights (32 stones or 200 kg), is flat on the ground in the Churchyard by the large beech tree, as you walk from Church Lane towards the Church.

Artefact 130 provides more details about this incident.
