Quorn man in accident - wire snaps at quarry - 1935

Loughborough Echo - 4th January 1935

Mr James Stockwell, aged 60 years, of Meeting-street, Quorn, was badly injured while starting work at the Mountsorrel Granite Company's quarry on Wednesday morning.

A wire cable which was stretched across the pit suddenly snapped and fell into the pit striking Mr Stockwell on the head knocking him unconscious. Several other men who were with him managed to run out of the way. The injured man was carried to the quarry ambulance station, where it was found that he had sustained a very bad scalp wound, and he was later on taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where several stitches were inserted.

He is reported to be as well as can be expected.
