Early photograph of primary school children c1900
The schoolmistress in this photograph is Miss Isabella Corlett. She arrived at the school in 1865 to teach the Infant department of the National School working single-handed until the number rose from 40 to 90 pupils. She had the reputation of being a disciplinarian and expected good behaviour both in and out of school. She retired to the Isle of Man in 1906 and died in 1935 at the age of 95.
